Newborn photography is so stinking adorable and cute!  Those brand new babies are perfect for molding and creating little pieces of art…that is if they want to cooperate! lol!  This little angel face was right around 2 weeks and a few days old…really too old for the type of newborn photography where we can mold and shape.  However, we still wanted to give it a go and see what we could get!  So, mom prepared the morning of by waking baby early and keeping her up.  She fed her and brought her on over with a nice full belly…however, this little sweetheart did not want to go to sleep!  I think  we tried for around 2 hours and got a few shots of her with her eyes shut, but the rest eyes were open.  She still is adorable in the pictures and I am glad we were able to capture a few images.  What is so funny about this session is that her mom called me about 10 mins after she left the house, and guess what…baby was FAST asleep!  Then about 4 or 5 hours later she posted a picture of her still FAST asleep! lol!  Go figure! 🙂

So, I thought I would post some tips to getting the most out of your newborn session! A few things you should know about newborn photography…to begin PROPS are everything! You will want to have hats, bows, anything and everything you can think of to make the picture that more interesting. Newborn sessions typically last 2 to 3 hours and require a great deal of patience. It is critical that we have a nice sleepy baby with a very full belly to get him/her into that super deep sleep that is required to mold away. The best time to take these pictures are within 10 days of birth. If you plan on breast feeding your new little angel, we will want to schedule your session after your milk has come in. If you are not going to breast feed, we can take the pictures any time before those 10 days have passed. After 10 days of life you will notice that your newborn will become more alert, which is awesome, just not great for those sleeping pictures.  Hope that helps a bit!  To view some more of my newborn portraits please visit my website.

Thank you for checking out this blog post and I hope to add a few more today!  One of these days I will get all those sessions up on this blog of mine! lol! {fingers crossed}

Jamie
