Got to say, I think taking pictures of another photographer is maybe the most scary photography thing I have done! lol!  The reason is not really ability, but to capture what she has imagined her portraits to look like.  I wonder if that even make sense, but it certainly does to me!

Anyhow, thank you so much Ashly of Element Image Co. for allowing me to take your portraits the other day!  Loved getting to know you a bit better and the challenge of trying to capture what you were looking for! 🙂

Had some fun last night getting to hang out with Pat!  It was the strangest thing, pretty sure we might share some genetic code! lol!  As soon as I saw Pat, I thought he could be one of my uncles!  It was kinda tripping me out!  Anyhow, we had so much fun together cruising around downtown Redding by foot!

Thanks Pat for letting me take a few portraits of you!

Happy Birthday Roy!  Thank you so much for letting us come document your 90th birthday!  I have to say, you are definately the patriarch of your family.  As soon as you speak, they listen…love it!  You kept the party totally organized…from cooking everybody dinner…drawing table numbers for food…dismissing tables…to the toasts.  I could see all your family and friends clearly love and adore you as I captured these moments.  150 guests attended your birthday bash over at the Redding Rodeo Clubhouse, and you had quite the spread for them. Loved how you were in the kitchen, cooking and making sure everything was perfect.  Also, loved that you wore the same shirt for your special day as you did in the portrait on your invitation, looks just as good on you now as it did then!  Hope you enjoyed your night!

I wanted to take a moment to thank my husband, Jesse for coming along to help with my heavy gear and take some behind the scenes of me working.  He decided to put together a little video for you guys as a birthday gift for Roy and his kind family from that footage!  You can view that at the end of this blog post.

I have created a download page for all the guests at Roy’s party who would like digital copies of the images.

Thought I would use this GORGEOUS girl as an example of the subtle difference “chin out and down” can create in a photograph.  During our photo shoot you will hear me constantly saying, “chin out and down.”  This is CRITICAL for you to really consider as I take your portrait.  There are multiple reasons I ask people to put their, “chin out and down” {“COAD”}.  For one, doing this your eyes will appear larger, this is because your eyes now are closer to the camera and whatever is closer to the camera will appear larger!  Bigger eyes is always a good thing!  Another reason I am all about “COAD” is this makes our neck look better as well, by defining the jaw line.  Now, Alley is young and beautiful, so it is pretty much impossible to have her look bad!  However, the older we get…the older we look in the neck area!  Also, if we have extra weight on us, “COAD” will help there too!  And lastly, I shoot from a low perspective sometimes, well a lot of the time and if you do not lean towards me with a little “COAD” you will look like you have a big belly and itty bitty tick head!

Thanks Alley for letting me use your stunning face for an example!

If you do not have an Iphone, this might take a second to load, so let it load for about 5 seconds and you should see the animation…sorry!

Jamie
