Like many couples these days, Jim and Mel wanted a destination wedding without the huge price tag. To add an extra twist, they wanted sneak away and elope. This is where I stepped in. During the initial telephone interview with the bride, Mel expressed their desires to make everything quick and easy by eloping and traveling to Scotland for the honeymoon. They chose Scotland because Jim’s parents’ families are from there. Mel was game for it because who wouldn’t want to see their man in a kilt!
In order to keep things on their schedule, we setup a photo shoot in advance of the elopement and in full dress. Mel had a plan and purchased a high resolution image of a castle they planned to visit while they were in Scotland and gave it to me to play with in photoshop. So, with the lighting just right that afternoon and a little bit help from Photoshop, I was able to create the first shot of this post!
Mel used that first image from their photo shoot and made it into a postcard. Using the postcard as their announcement that they had gotten married, the new Mr. & Mrs. mailed the postcards out to family and friends while they travelled through Scotland. This way, the families had a postmark and an explanation. Easy, sweet, no hassles!
As proof they actually made it to the castle in the postcard picture, Jim and Mel sent me the actual picture of the two of them in front of Eilean Donan Castle, which I have included under the postcard portrait. I also included the images we used to create the postcard…fun stuff!
Some other information about their “destination wedding” As a child, Jim’s mother used to be a sword dancer in the Scottish Highland games. Naturally, they used the tartan of his mother’s family, which is Royal Stewart. The sword in the picture is the actual sword that Jim’s mother used while dancing as a Highland sword dancer. Mel upcycled her dress and designed and sewed the tartan sash she’s wearing.
Love the creativity of my peeps! Thank you so much Jim and Mel for showing me such a cool new location and congratulations on your union as one!
